By uniting for Gallaudet, we hope people will in turn unite for deaf and hard of hearing children in Idaho.

Supporters!

After some discussion, we have realized that it would be best for Tent City to take place on SATURDAY October 21st, 2006 from 10 to 3. We will start setting up at 9:30 a.m. The Rally will start at 11 a.m.

There are several reasons for supporting this change:

We need daylight to see each other :)
It'll be warmer during the day
We can draw more attention during the day
It is safer to have the event during the day
We can draw more attendees on Saturday rather than Friday night.
Gallaudet University's Homecoming takes place on Saturday.

Bring your friends, neighbors, co-workers, and family. Bring your own lunch (to eat at the event) Again, in respect for the property owners and children that will be present, we ask that there be no alcoholic drinking or smoking on the property.

Tent City Idaho is …

a way to show support of equal human rights for Deaf/HH people.
a way to promote Deaf/HH awareness
a way to show that we care about Deaf Education issues
a way to raise awareness that we, as a community, care about each other
a way to let our deaf and hard of hearing peers know that we care
a way to support victims of audism
a way to unite our community regardless of communication mode, race, background, age, or beliefs
a way to tell our politicians and community members that we do have Deaf/HH related issues and that we do care about Deaf/HH related issues in Idaho.

How will we do all of the above?

We will set up as many tents as possible as a symbol of UNITY. This will also draw attention from those who may not be aware of our cause. We will have leaders in our community speak to us during the Rally about how we can support each other in a positive way. It’s that simple. ;)

Tent City Idaho Rally will be on Saturday (new date)!

When: Saturday October 21st, 2006
Time: Rally will start at 11 a.m.
Where: 2680 N. Locust Grove Road in Meridian, Idaho
Who’s invited: Anyone (yes, even hearing people) who support the rights
of Deaf and Hard of Hearing people are more than welcome to attend.

Media welcome.

Tent City is a powerful way that we can show support to the movement currently taking place at Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C.

We will begin setting up tents at approximately 9:30 a.m.

The Rally will begin at 11 a.m. We are thrilled to have several Gallaudet University Alumni presenting at this rally. Our own Richie Moses will lead this rally!

Wear your Gallaudet attire or dark blue and gold attire to show your spirit. Dress warmly and comfortable! Don’t forget to bring a tent or two!

Children, especially deaf and hard of hearing children, are encouraged to attend. Please make sure they are dressed warmly and well-fed.

In respect for the property owners, the movement, and the children that will be present, we ask that no alcoholic drinking or smoking to take place on this property.

This event will wrap up at approximately 3 p.m. Please ensure that we leave this property cleaner than when we arrived.

Special thanks to the Moxley Family who has generously agreed to allow us to hold this event on their personal property.

Call for Supporters of Deaf/HH Rights

Hey guys.

I just got home from a trip to California. I came home and spent some time talking with my sister-in-law, sister, nephew, and parents. I also spent some time looking through various websites, blogs, vlogs, etc... I'm just amazed. I saw my brother talk to his students at NMSD about how this how the path to success for Deaf people is being paved.

I'm in shock, I'm dumbfounded, I'm motivated, I'm inspired, I'm rarin' to go!

People, we NEED to do something to show our support to the cause at Gallaudet University. It's not about Gallaudet students getting what they want .. it is about US!

We want our rights, we want our children to have a better future than us, we want our children to grow up in a less oppressive world, we want to get rid of oppressive experiences.

If you had to walk 50 miles in the desert ... would you want to do it barefooted with chains around your feet and hands? With 25 pounds of sand on each shoulder? Alone? With no food, no water, just the clothes on your back?

Or .. would you rather do it with nice comfortable shoes on, comfortable clothes, food to eat, joy in your heart, with your friends, peers, acquaintances? With energy that you've never felt before? With determination, with memories to cherish for the rest of your life?

I FEEL what they're fighting for at Gallaudet University. They are fighting for US! For our children! For our peers! Our family! We NEED to do something!

Let's get together and do something. We need to raise funds and gather items needed and send them to Gallaudet University. We need to send people to physically support those who have been there fighting our fight.

Idaho will have a Tent City!!

I'm so grateful for all of those people over there and I feel the love they have for me. That, my friends, is priceless.
